10. Lei Nani (attributed to Charles Namahoe)–instrumental on 6-string guitar, in C Major “Atta’s C” Tuning (C-G-E-G-C-E).
A favorite with male and female falsetto singers, as well as hula dancers, “Lei Nani” speaks of love to be worn as an adorning lei. Aunty Genoa Keawe’s rendition on the album Hana Hou Volume One is one of the archetypal vocal renditions of the modern era. Many slack-key artists also have performed “Lei Nani,” including Ledward Ka‘apana, Raymond Kane, and of course, Gabby Pahinui, for whom it served as a signature song.
Played in Atta’s C Tuning, Cyril’s Latin-tinged version pays tribute to his father, especially in the introduction and the ending.
